  Royal Highness meets creative thinkers
Prince Philip visits the Zollverein School of Management and Design

As part of his visit to the Zollverein world heritage site, His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, will call into the Zollverein School of Management and Design to hear all about its international teaching and research programme. The prince's visit to the Zollverein School is an expression of the close cooperation between German and British design professionals and design-oriented companies in both countries.

The Zollverein School of Management and Design is the only research and educational institute of its kind in Europe. It combines the disciplines of management and design in a practical manner and offers both creative professionals and managers an insight into a discipline in which they were not trained. The 16-month MBA degree course is aimed at employees working in the creative sector that would like to move into management, and decision-makers in the world of business, science, culture, and politics that would like to broaden their horizons by learning more about design and economic processes in management structures.

Numerous British design professionals from the fields of architecture, and fashion and jewellery design are already working towards the Zollverein School's qualification. The Duke of Edinburgh will meet some of them during his visit. They are currently participating in the 'Professional Business Design' seminar. The British corporate and design consultant Rachel Smart is a lecturer on this course.

Prince Phillip will also visit an exhibition featuring the results of the international one-week workshop entitled 're-materialized. recycled materials - and their use in space', which was run by the world-renowned German designer Jette Joop and attended by about 40 design students from Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany. The Duke of Edinburgh will have the chance to speak with Jette Joop and the young design students. They will present selected works from the workshop, which aimed to come up with creative designs involving recycled materials. Says Jette Joop: 'The goal is to give the students the chance to try and create desirable objects that can compete with any new design product. At the same time, the products should have a certain lightness and humour; in short, it's all about sexy recycling.'
